UN envoy welcomes a recent increase in flights between Sanaa and Amman‏‏

The UN envoy to Yemen، Hans Grundberg، has welcomed a recent increase in flights between Sanaa، the capital of Yemen، and Amman، the capital of Jordan.

Grundberg stressed the necessity of removing all limitations on travellers' freedom of movement into، out of، and within Yemen in an official press release on Saturday.

He also asked all sides to the Yemeni crisis to agree on additional steps that would improve living conditions for Yemenis and establish a statewide cease-fire، according to the Xinhua news agency.

As of June 10، Yemenia Airways، the Yemeni national airline، will start operating six weekly flights to Jordan.

Mohsen Haidara، the commercial director of Yemenia Airways، said the company's efforts have been rewarded by the increase in flights to Jordan، which marks the first stage in their plans to expand to other destinations.

Since taking over the Yemeni capital in 2014، the Houthi rebels have been in charge of Sanaa International Airport.

As a result of this، commercial flights had been suspended، but were resumed on a limited scale in May 2022 through a deal brokered by the UN.

Since that time، Yemenia Airways has operated intermittent flights between Sanaa and Amman، carrying passengers and assisting Yemenis seeking medical care overseas.

According to local observers، efforts to loosen limitations on Yemen's airspace are anticipated to lessen the sufferings endured by Yemenis and foster an environment favourable to peace and stability.
