The sixth batch of the oil derivatives grant provided by Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), has arrived at the oil port of Aden with quantities amounting to 60,000 metric tons of diesel and 30,000 metric tons of fuel oil.

The delivery of the new batch brings the total amount of oil derivatives that have been supplied since the launch of the grant to 506,000 metric tons to meet the monthly needs of the power stations in the country.

The oil derivatives grant falls within initiatives launched by the Kingdom to support Yemen, and comes as an extension to previous grants of oil derivatives amounting to more than $4.2 billion, while the total quantities of oil derivatives stand at 1,260,850 metric tons, worth $422 million.

Emphasizing the importance of the grant in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people, Yemeni Minister of Electricity Dr. Anwar Kalashat pointed to the previous shortage of fuel supplies, which used to cause recurring power cuts for many days.

He added that the grant has significantly improved electricity generation, which has become almost stable, reaching 24 hours of power supply in some governorates.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Abdul Hakim Fadel, said, for his part, that this support had a great impact on people’s lives and saved the Yemeni government millions of dollars.

The Director of the SDRPY office in Aden, Ahmed Madkhali, said that the oil derivatives grant was a continuation of the Kingdom’s support to Yemen and a reflection of the strong ties between the two countries.

A committee composed of several Yemeni parties, including the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, in addition to the General Electricity Corporation and the Aden Refineries, is joining the SDRPY in supervising the distribution of oil derivatives to the governorates.
