Ould Cheikh: The detainees issue is primarily a humanitarian and should not be politicized‏

The UN envoy Ismail Ould Ckeikh Ahmed asked the Yemeni parties to adhere to good faith and doing national duty in support of the peace process and working to reunite the Yemeni families with holy month.

This is a humanitarian issue in the first place and we hope not to politicize it more than that. The political bids should not be at the expense of the detainees asked to return to their families as soon as possible . We welcome the exchange of prisoners which happened in Taiz and hope to release all detainees as soon as possible, Ould Cheikh said in a press statement.

The UN envoy noted that he met the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdullatif Al-Zayani who visit Kuwait nowdays and discussed the developments of the Yemeni file and some of the proposed mechanisms that contribute to the stabilization of the situation in the country

Which related to prisoners and detainees commission the putschists delegation gave the UN a list of its number of detainees and the government delegation will deliver its first list tomorrow, and the parties agreed to complete the exchange of lists every three days.

The UN envoy also held yesterday a meeting with Cheikh Sabah Khalid Alhamad Alsabah the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait in the presence of Dr Abdullatif Al-Zayani who told the attendants the results of his meetings with the government delegation and the putschists.
