Puntland invites Somali politicians to forum to discuss 2020/2021 poll‏

The Puntland Consultative Conference has concluded today and a communique issued.

The communique touched on a range of issues including galmudug issues, relations between Puntand state and the federal government, the provisional constitution, elections, federal system, security and other issues.

The following are the main points of the communique:

1. To postpone and leave constitutional matters for the next government in 2020/2021

2. A one person one vote election cannot be held this year and term extension for the president and parliament will not be accepted.

3. Puntland will boycott the talks between Somalia and the breakaway region of Somaliland if they are not given a chance to be part of the negotiations

4. Invite all the political stakeholders to come to a forum in Puntland to deliberate on the 2020/2021 elections

Meanwhile, opposition leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Wwarsame welcomed the final communique issued by the Puntland Consultative Conference.

“I welcome the communique issued by the Puntland Consultative Conference, especially the invitation extended by the Puntland regional state to Somali political stakeholders to deliberate on the 2020/2021 elections,” Wwarsame said in a tweet.
