Yemen supports the Saudi efforts to ensure success of Jeddah Talks‏

Yemen’s legitimate government stressed its support to the Saudi efforts to ensure the success of the ongoing dialogue with representatives of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Jeddah.

Foreign Minister Mohammed Abdullah al-Hadrami " These talks would restore stability in southern regions of Yemen, return the government to the interim capital, Aden, and unify security and military services."  Al-Hadrami gave his remarks during a meeting in Riyadh with ambassadors to Yemen of the five permanent member states of the United Nations Security Council.

Hadrami briefed them on the latest developments related to the Hodeidah agreement and the Jeddah dialogue, said official government sources.

He also praised the major role played by Saudi Arabia, the leader of the coalition to restore stability in Yemen, especially in regards to the dialogue, according to the Saba news agency.

He stressed that the legitimate government is keen on achieving peace and ending the armed rebellion in some southern provinces in order to return the focus on ending the Iran-backed Houthi militias’ expansionist agenda in Yemen.

Hadrami highlighted the importance of committing to the national principles upon which the Jeddah dialogue is based on.

These include preserving the security, stability, unity and safety of Yemeni territories, restoring the authority of the state and all of its institutions to Aden, including the parliament, and integrating all non-state and STC military groups with the forces of the defense and interior ministries.

He stressed the need to show goodwill and avoid escalation or mobilization in order to ensure the success of the Jeddah talks.

“Attempts to provoke unjustified tensions in Socotra do not serve any party,” Hadrami said, adding that the biggest losers from the continuation of any escalation or mobilization are Yemeni citizens.

Turning to the UN envoy’s peace mission in Yemen, the minister expressed the government’s support for his efforts. He underlined the need to commit to the Hodeidah deal and focus on resolving the dispute over security and the local authority in accordance to the agreement.

Resolving this issue will largely lead to the success of the Sweden agreement, he remarked.

“The solution and key to engaging in new political consultations with the Houthis is linked to the implementation of this agreement,” Hadrami explained.
