Yemen calls on Lebanese government to restrain Hezbollah and its aggressive behavior‏

In a letter sent to Lebanese Foreign Minister Gibran Bassil, Yemen’s foreign minister, Khaled Hussein al-Yamani, objected to the Lebanese-based Hezbollah backing Houthis in Yemen.

According to Al-Arabiya English, the Yemeni minister called on the Lebanese government to restrain the pro-Iranian militia and its aggressive behavior, and to align its values with Lebanon’s self-proclaimed dissociation policy.

Al-Yamani asserted his country has the right to raise the issue in front the Arab and International communities saying: “We in the Yemeni Republic reserve the right to present the matter to the Arab League, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the UN Security Council.”

Despite the diplomatic language expressed in the letter sent on July 8-emphasizing the good relations between the two countries- the minister expressed his anger, and considered Hezbollah's Secretary General Hasan Nasrallah's incitement to fight the Yemeni legitimate forces a blatant interference in Yemen’s affairs.

He continued: “The party’s support for the Houthi militia appeared to be clear in the televised speech of Nasrallah on June 29, 2018, in which it incited them to fight the Yemeni government forces, and expressed their ambition and the militants of his party to fight in Yemen in favor of the coup.”

The speech, he said, urged the party to “support the Houthi militia against the Internationally recognized legitimate authority, in blatant interference in the internal affairs of my country, which would seriously damage the interests of Yemen and its national security and fuel the flames of war, which will continue to destabilize security and stability in the region.”

Al-Yamani also added that the Yemeni government’s condemns Hezbollah’s statements and practices, including the pro-Iranian militia’s participation in training, planning, incitement and supporting the coup militias.
