Ould Cheikh ""We are working on a ceasefire in Yemen before start of Ramadhan".
UN special envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad said Sunday he and parties concerned were discussing a truce in Yemen to take place before Muslims' holy month of Ramadhan, paving way for resumption of peace talks.
"We are working on a ceasefire in Yemen before start of Ramadhan to prepare for a new round of talks between the parties, and cessation of hostilities in Al-Hudaida port," he said before the Doha Forum.
Efforts are currently focusing on "a common solution" among all warring parties to cease fighting in Al-Hudaida port in order to alleviate suffering of the Yemeni people.
Ould Cheikh Ahmad said the conflict in Yemen has killed more than 8,000 people and injured over 44,000 others.
He said Yemen would be facing huge challenges hampering development and stability. He added that following the peaceful transition of authority, Yemenis were moving towards the building of the state, development and solving of thorny issues.
"However, the country is divided because of the conflict," he added.
The longer the conflict, he said, the deepen humanitarian crisis would be.
Ould Cheikh Ahmad thanked the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for the support of stability and peace in Yemen. He also called on the international community to help the Yemenis reach permanent peace.
