Some 128 humanitarian organisations and charities that operate in Yemen have lost more than US$1.5 billion due to violations by the Houthi rebel militia and allied forces of the now-ousted president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, in the period from December 2014 to December 2015, the state Saudi Press Agency, SPA, reported

The Sanaa-based al-Yateem charity alone lost around $100 million due to the violations, while the severe damage caused to civilians, orphans, widows and underprivileged people by these violations are immeasurable, the SPA noted in the report

The closing of organisations taking care of orphans has caused a disaster that involves a million orphans, it noted

Tens of thousands of government-sponsored orphan children have lost educational opportunities and social care after the Houthi militia had cut funding for relevant government departments, the agency further noted
