A Saudi frigate ,which was patrolling off the Yemeni port of Hodeida, was attacked by 3 gunboats belonging to the Houthi militias, the Arab coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen announced on Monday.

Sky News Arabia TV channel quoted the coalition leadership as saying in a statement that " The Saudi ship treated with the boats as required but one of the boats hit the back of the ship which led to the explosion of boat and the fire erupted at the rear of the ship where the fire has been controlled by the crew."

"This led to the killing of two from the crew and three other injured ," the statement added.

The Saudi ship continued to patrol duties in the area of ​​operations, while the Air Force and coalition forces' ships continued to follow the fugitive boats and handling.

The Saudi-led coalition warned the attack on the ship "would impact international navigation and the flow of humanitarian assistance to the port for Yemeni citizens."
