The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has imposed strict measures on access to its military base at the Halane centre.

This was announced in a statement AMISOM issued after a foreign contractor who was working at Halane tested positive for the deadly Covid-19.

Only basic services will be allowed into the AMISOM centre for the next thirty days.

In other news, the federal government’s suspension of domestic flights came into effect today. Exemptions will be made for flights transporting essential cargo such as food, medicine and other basics.

The government has also started providing supplies necessary to fight the disease to regional states.

So far, three cases of the disease have been confirmed in Somalia, but there is fear that the virus may spread and overwhelm an already struggling healthcare system in Somalia.
